March in Motion: Preparing Project Proposals

March is, as every year, a very intensive period during which our team focused on preparing several research projects as well as working on scientific publications. Among the most important activities was the preparation of a GAČR project proposal dedicated to methanogenic archaea in the digestive tract of piglets, which builds on our long‑term research in agricultural and environmental microbiology.

New Visiting Student from Spain Joins Our Team

We are pleased to welcome Blanca, a visiting student from the Francisco de Vitoria University in Madrid, Spain, who has joined our team for a four‑month research internship. During her stay, Blanca will focus on reducing emissions from livestock production, contributing to our ongoing research on environmental impacts and sustainable agricultural practices. Her work will involve studying microbial processes linked to greenhouse gas formation and exploring strategies to mitigate emissions in animal husbandry.
We are delighted to have Blanca with us and look forward to the scientific insights she will bring to our research group.

Our colleague Monika received her professorship decree from the President of the Czech Republic

Yesterday, our colleague Monika was officially appointed as a professor. She received her appointment decree directly from the President of the Czech Republic at Karolinum.

New research project GACR

LAM is co-investigator of the project "The Corrosive Appetite of Microorganisms: Corrosion of Mg Alloys Influenced by Methanogens and Sulfate-Reducing Bacteria in Anaerobic Environments", which was supported by The Czech Science Foundation (GACR).

Simon K.-M. R. Rittmann Delivered Public Lecture as Part of the Habilitation Procedure

The lecture, titled Proteinogenic amino acid production by methanogenic archaea, focused on the ability of methanogenic archaea to produce proteinogenic amino acids and the potential applications of this process in sustainable biotechnology and bio-based production systems.
