Our postdoc Alex has been awarded an ERA Fellowship!
Alexandra Wilson, a post-doctoral researcher in the Ruzek lab, has been awarded an ERA fellowship through the fourth call of the Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions-funded Postdoctoral Fellowships, which is a part of the EU’s Research and Innovation framework programme Horizon Europe aimed at widening countries.

Alex applied for this fellowship call shortly after joining the Ruzek lab in April of 2024 upon completion of her PhD at the MRC-University of Glasgow, Centre for Virus Research. During her time at the Centre for Virus Research, Alex’s work focused on tick-bornebunyaviruses and their interactions with both hosts and vectors.
In the coming months, Alex will begin her ERA Fellowship, where she will work on the alimentary infection of tick-borne encephalitis virus (TBEV). Her project, titled T.A.S.T.E (Targeting Alimentary Systems in TBEV Experimentation), aims to explore the mechanisms of TBEV transmission through the alimentary route, with the goal of uncovering key molecular interactions (both extra- and intracellular) and examining these factors in a cellular and tissue context to establish a model for TBEV alimentary infection.
Alex is excited to start this research journey and is eager to see where the project leads. She hopes the findings will contribute to a deeper understanding of TBEV biology and inform future strategies for preventing virus transmission. Congratulations, Alex, on this well-deserved achievement!
