New paper in EMI: 3D mapping of TBEV infection with a novel reporter virus
Míša’s first-author paper has just appeared in Emerging Microbes & Infections, describing the engineering of a novel tGFP-TBEV reporter virus that enables 3D mapping of infection in the mouse brain.

In this work, we engineered a novel TurboGFP-expressing tick-borne encephalitis virus (tGFP-TBEV) that serves as a versatile tool for flavivirus research. The reporter virus allows:
-
quantitative measurement of viral replication,
-
precise tracking of infected cells,
-
high-throughput antiviral and neutralization assays,
-
and 3D visualization of TBEV infection in the mouse brain.
This new reporter system opens opportunities for advanced studies of TBEV tropism, replication, and host–virus interactions, contributing to a deeper understanding of tick-borne encephalitis pathogenesis.
