Jirka Holoubek was awarded for outstanding dissertation

Jiří Holoubek, a recent graduate of the PhD programme in Microbiology, was awarded the Rector's Prize for an outstanding dissertation on the occasion of Dies Academicus. His research focused on tick-borne encephalitis virus and other related flaviviruses. His dissertation was prepared at the Department of Virology under the supervision of prof. Daniel Růžek and doc. Luďek Eyer.

His work has not only resulted in several high impact publications, but most importantly a major shift in our understanding of secondary structures within viral RNA, the maturation process of flavivirus particles and the possibilities of antiviral treatment. Congratulations!
