Brno iGEM team with Baru, Standa, Matúš, and Martin awarded a gold medal!
Brno iGEM team made of students from Masaryk University and Brno University of Technology including our lab members Barbora Hrnčířová, Stanislav Juračka, Matúš Pešta, and Martin Sitte won a gold medal in this year's competition. Sincere congratulations! This success is even more emphasized by the fact that the team and the project were built bottom-up solely by students! PIs had only an advisory role.
The Phoscage project tackled phosphate accumulation in surface water. This topic is crucial since high phosphate levels can lead to harmful cyanobacterial bloom. Brno team designed phosphate-dependent expression of bacterial microcompartments (BMCs) in Bacillus subtilis to solve it. Find out more in propagation and results videos!
