Great news!
MBL has its very first Ph.D. graduate. Bára Burýšková successfully defended her thesis, Engineering of Synthetic Bacterial Consortia for Utilization of Plant Biomass-Derived Carbohydrates, last Friday. Bára joined MBL in 2019 and played a crucial role in setting up the lab. Her Ph.D. journey came with challenges — from the early-stage lab infrastructure to the COVID-19 pandemic — but she remained focused, delivered high-quality results, and ultimately authored or co-authored three peer-reviewed publications in respected journals, including Nature Communications, Synthetic Biology, and Biotechnology Notes.
She also mentored undergraduate colleagues (Evča Šviráková, Standa Juračka, Barča Gavendová), presented her work at national and international symposia, and engaged in science outreach at events like the Night of Scientists, Falling Walls, and during hands-on courses hosted by our lab. Her achievements have been recognized with the prestigious Brno PhD Talent Fellowship, the Dean’s Award, and a FEBS Summer Fellowship.
This was a truly successful Ph.D. journey! We’re proud to have witnessed Bára’s growth as both a scientist and a colleague, and we wish her all the best in her future career and personal life.
