New publication in Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology!
We are happy to share our new collaborative study with Stanislav Obruča team from Brno University of Technology. We continue to explore the carbohydrate metabolism of the thermophilic bacterium Caldimonas thermodepolymerans, a potent producer of biodegradable bioplastics - polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA). Our latest study demonstrates that debottlenecking glucose metabolism with an exogenous sugar transporter can substantially improve growth and PHA production on mixtures of major waste plant biomass-derived sugars: https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s00253-026-13741-0
A follow-up study currently in preparation will shed further light on Caldimonas metabolism and introduce powerful new strains for PHA biotechnology prepared by combining systems metabolic engineering and protein engineering.
